The wine, beer, cider and mead produced in Victoria and on Vancouver Island are truly labours of love. The qualifications shared by local winemakers and brewers include a history of experience combined with a passion for hand-crafting which is part science and part art.
Having been in operation for only a mere decade, Vancouver Island’s wineries, cideries and meadery are relative newcomers to the world's beverage industry. As a result of the determination and talent of their makers, Vancouver Island's wines and ciders are internationally recognized and respected.
Victoria’s breweries have also developed products that are earning a reputation worldwide. Visit Victoria’s many breweries, including Canada’s oldest licensed brewpub, to sample award-winning ales, lagers and stouts. Allow a bartender to pull a you a pint directly from the pub cellar; experience some of Canada's finest all-natural, hand-crafted brews.
BC's first meadery is also on Vancouver Island. Made from honey and berries, mead is an old-world beverage gaining popularity among savvy consumers. Visit a honey farm and meadery to learn the process, from beekeeping through fermentation and bottling.
