Scenic Walks and Trails

Ideally explored on foot, Victoria features hundreds of scenic walks and hiking trails in and around the city. Here are just a few favourites:

  Dallas Road
A walking path traces the shoreline from the Ogden Point Breakwater to Oak Bay and Gonzales Bay. Stairs from the footpath lead to the beach below.

Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park
A 15-kilometre walking, jogging, and riding trail surrounds the park’s two lakes.

Galloping Goose and Peninsula Trails
100 kilometres of a cycling or hiking trail links Sidney through to Saanich, Victoria, and out to an abandoned mining town north of Sooke. Together, the trails form a segment in the Trans Canada Trail, Canada’s millennium project which stretches from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island.

Harbour Heritage Walk
This route features the historic sites and attractions of the Inner Harbour, Old Town, and Government Street, as well as a number of pubs and restaurants.

Dean Park
A network of trails wind through the lush forest of Mount Newton on the Saanich Peninsula.

Mt. Douglas Park
A number of scenic hiking trails of varying lengths lead through the park. A vehicle accessible road leads to a panoramic view at the summit.

Oak Bay Scenic Walk
Ocean and mountain views, gardens, and heritage homes are highlights on this five-kilometre ramble through Victoria’s most British neighbourhood.

Lochside Trail
Part of the Galloping Goose, this scenic trail offers scenic views of farmlands and mountains.
