Warhol: Larger than Life explores one of the most expansive and well known cultural figures of the 20th century. Andy Warhol was not only an innovative and influential painter, printmaker, sculptor and filmmaker; he was a celebrity with a huge following and public profile.
This monumental exhibition features 150 paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, photographs and films spanning Warhol’s four-decade career. Examining several aspects of the artist, it incorporates his fascination with the larger than life existences of celebrities, his elevation of everyday subjects into “Fine Art”, and the creation of Andy Warhol – a metamorphosis from sickly boy living in Depression-era Pittsburgh to New York trendsetter. Unique to this exhibition is the focus on Warhol’s contact with Canada through exhibitions, controversy and interaction with celebrities such as Wayne Gretzky and Conrad Black.
