Volunteer Position - Victoria Visitor Information Volunteer
Why do we want volunteers?
In 2014, Tourism Victoria is taking a new approach to seasonal visitor servicing; the Visitor Services department will embark on its first year of volunteer recruitment and is extending our services beyond the front desk. We aim to provide a more efficient service and to better assist visitors.
What types of shifts are we in need of?
• Seasonal shifts - May through September
• Evenings and weekends as required
• Minimum requirements, 4 hours per week
What type of training will be offered?
Tourism Victoria will provide a mandatory two-day training program for all volunteers to receive their Destination BC Tourism/Visitor Information Counsellor Certification. Further optional participation in familiarization tours to experience Tourism Victoria member businesses will be offered.
Who are we looking for?
Tourism Victoria is seeking local residents who have an enthusiasm for assisting visitors by promoting Greater Victoria and its surrounding areas. Customer service, working in a team environment and fluency in other languages are among some of the qualities and experience that are desired for the Victoria Visitor Information Volunteer position at Tourism Victoria.
Victoria Visitor Information Volunteers will play an important role in maintaining the service excellence that is expected by visitors to our fair city. Volunteers are expected to:
• Answer visitor inquiries
• Provide visitors with printed materisals (brochures, guides, maps)
• Record visitor interactions by keeping daily statistics
Volunteers may be askled to work at the Visitor Centre, on Government Street and other major pedestrian corridors.
• Completion of Tourism Victoria's training and orientation program
• Proficient in English (written and oral)
