Visitor Information Counsellor

Tourism Victoria is seeking a full-time permanent Visitor Information Counsellor (VIC) with direct responsibilities for providing travel information to the public, selling tickets, stocking brochure racks and assisting with our Social Media accounts i.e. Twitter, Going Local Blog submissions and Facebook. This individual would be a positive, enthusiastic, motivated, co-operative and productive individual and team player.

The hourly wage for this position is $13.50 plus benefits based on a 25-40 hour work week. Tourism Victoria offers an incredible work environment which promotes a fun and productive atmosphere. We are proud of our culture, and are looking forward to welcoming a new addition to our team.

Job Description

Title: Visitor Information Counsellor
Reports To: Manager, Visitor Services

Summary
The Visitor Information Counsellor (VIC) is responsible for providing travel information to the public (both on the counter, the call centre), making accommodation reservations, selling tickets, assisting in the processing of mail requests, stocking brochure racks and assisting with our Social Media accounts (i.e. Twitter).

Job Duties
  • Greet all visitors in a friendly and professional manner
  • Provide correct and up-to-date information to the public; plan travel itineraries in response to visitor enquiries via call centre, on the counter and social media accounts
  • Book accommodations utilizing the online booking system
  • Sell tickets on behalf of members (transportation, tours/charters, attractions, arts & culture, etc.)
  • Sell merchandise (maps, stamps, passes etc.)
  • Process cash transactions
  • Balance cash drawer daily
  • Record statistics related to each visitor party enquiry
  • Provide Information through mail fulfillment when requested
  • Assist in and provide electronic information through information@tourismvictoria.com
  • Answer telephone enquiries, book accommodations and/or refer callers to appropriate Tourism Victoria team member
  • Keep interior/exterior clean, tidy and organized
  • Ensure all stations are fully stocked
  • Stock brochure racks and order brochures as requested by Supervisor or Manager
  • Unpack and store incoming materials/publications and assist in maintaining relevant inventory records
  • Complete general office duties and/or housekeeping as requested by the Manager or Assistant Manager, Visitor Services
  • Other duties as required
Requirements
  • Previous work experience in the tourism industry is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of local attractions, transportation and accommodations
  • Strong knowledge of Victoria, surrounding areas and BC
  • Energetic, self-motivated, and results-oriented
  • Computer literate, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Previous Sales Experience
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a team and independently
  • Strong, ethical and effective work acumen
  • Second Language is an asset
  • Customer Service Certifications is an asset
  • Ability to work in a busy/fast paced environment
  • Knowledge and experience in Social Media is an asset
Working Conditions
  • Evenings and weekends as required
