While the rest of the country has been embroiled with a heat wave, Victoria has remained calm and cool here on Vancouver Island. It finally seems like it is possible to emerge from your home and enjoy the sunshine now that we are reaching the expected average temperatures in the region. So what does this mean?
It means that this week is a great chance to step out and enjoy some beautiful classical music in several beautiful locations in Victoria! The Victoria Symphony is continuing their Symphony in the Summer 2011 series with a huge build up towards the Victoria Symphony Splash! on July 31.
Symphony Splash! showcases our world renowned orchestra that will be performing from a barge in Victoria's illustrious Inner Harbour. The grand finale explodes with a performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, complete with bells, cannons and fireworks!
This annual series of events opens the ears and souls of folks who do not normally seek out classical music. Several outdoor performances are scheduled with a multitude of musical sections being highlighted. The events are free and generate excitement while giving a sneak preview to the Victoria Symphony Splash! that is sure to rock the Inner Harbour once again in 2011.
The Victoria Symphony has conveniently planned the week so that there are events happening during both the day and evening. This means that everyone has plenty of opportunity to get into the symphony spirit. I know will be attending at least a couple of them, due to two of my favourite things being involved: free admission and lunch time!

The Victoria Symphony Splash! is one of the largest annual symphony events in North America and is always a huge hit here in the city. The event expects over 40,000 people, so it is a good idea to plan ahead and come out early to make sure you get a good spot for the show. If you happen to have a small watercraft like a kayak or canoe, you can come out and watch the symphony from the water too.

Free, fun and family friendly, the Victoria Symphony continues to deliver on the plan to enrich lives through shared experiences of extraordinary music. I think a visit to one of the listed events and the Victoria Symphony Splash! will provide warmth for the mind and heart to match the heat of the summer sun!
