Victoria has been bursting with inaugural festivals this summer, showcasing local and international talent in our beautiful city. We've seen top cycling athletes at the Victoria International Cycling Festival and exceptional performers at the Victoria International Buskers Festival. This weekend marks another exciting festival premiere to add to the list of new summer events.
Starting Friday, August 19, Royal Athletic Park will be home to the first annual FolkWest Festival, three days of folk-root music and family entertainment. Ron Sexsmith, Barney Bentall, and locals The Bills and Daniel Lapp are only a small sample of the incredible musical talent performing. You can view the full schedule of performers here.
FolkWest is more than a three-day concert. It’s a community collaboration of folk-root culture. You’ll find eclectic artisans selling art, clothing, jewelry, organic fare and more. Kids of all ages can participate in hands-on art projects, folk dancing and other activities in the KidsFest area while listening to children folk entertainers and storytellers.
For bigger kids aged 19+, Phillips Beer Garden will be ready to quench the thirst that a sunny afternoon brings. The beer garden is open to the entire family to relax and enjoy a great view of main stage performances! Be sure to check out the collection of tasty food vendors in attendance to keep bellies full and satisfied during the festival. All artisan and food vendors can be found on the FolkWest website.
As parking around Royal Athletic Park can be limited, festival-goers are encouraged to ride their bikes. Volunteers have organized a convenient, fenced-in and monitored Bike Valet available by donation.
FolkWest is a perfect way to spend a sunny weekend listening to great music, supporting a new community event and enjoying the company of friends and family of all ages!
