Victoria has the second highest number of restaurants per capita in North America. With so much choice, where do you start? Never fear, here’s a quick rundown of a few local favourites: Breakfast Dutch Bakery & Coffee Shop – Established in 1956, the Dutch Bakery will delight with its vast array of delicious pastries and filling breakfasts. Traditional full breakfasts, made-to-order omelettes, and hearty breakfast sandwiches are the main features, though for those with a sweet tooth, there are always Belgian waffles. Once you’ve seen the handmade chocolates lining their counters, you may be back again later in the day! Willie’s Bakery & Café – In a colourful heritage building with a pretty outdoor courtyard, Willie’s sets the scene for a satisfying breakfast feast. From granola and fruit to generously sized skillets to an extensive ‘Benny’ menu, you may need a few minutes to decide! Sample their French toast stack with decadent maple cream cheese, or tuck into the Southern Benny served on corn bread with chipotle hollandaise. Lunch Café Bliss – A vegan and veggie friendly hotspot, Café Bliss is dedicated to using 100 per cent organic produce from BC farmers or ethical fair trade suppliers according to season and availability. Their delicious and creative dishes include colourful salads, hand-made falafels, noodle bowls and pizza, along with a tempting selection of freshly blended juices and smoothies.  Try their Thai Noodle Bowl with kelp noodles and almond chilli-lime dressing and their daily desserts. Murchie’s – A BC favourite, Murchie’s is a busy tearoom with a wonderful array of both teas and coffees and a generous selection of beautifully hand-crafted pastries, tarts, cakes and macaroons. For lunch, their fresh soups and sandwiches can be ordered to eat in or take away. Try their West Coast sandwich, full of veggies, tapenade and bocconcini cheese, then treat yourself with a delicious chocolate croissant, you won’t regret it! Dinner Catalano house-made ricotta Gnudi Bubby’s Kitchen – Located in the heart of Cook Street Village, Bubby’s Kitchen aims to be your “home away from home” with handmade burgers, salads and large plates. Check out the Bison Burger, topped with caramelized onions and citrus basil aioli, or the spiced duck breast with cranberry shallot jus and seasonal vegetables for an idea of their BC flavour offerings. Finish off with a slice of their homemade cake and a locally-produced tea to complete the comfort food experience! Catalano Restaurant & Cicchetti Bar – Victoria’s newest Mediterranean-style restaurant situated in the Magnolia Hotel is serving up Spanish and Italian-inspired dishes with as much locally sourced variety as possible. Split into ‘cicchetti’ (small plates), appetisers and mains, you may decide to dine tapas-style. Small plates such as the bacon wrapped dates with gorgonzola and the polenta fries with piquillo pepper aioli will disappear fast; choose a selection of 2-3 small plates per person or a small plate/appetiser and main. You won’t be disappointed! Bon appetit!
