What you need to know about BreakOut West and the Western Canadian Music Awards
Get ready for BreakOut West, held this year in Victoria from September 17 to 20, 2015. Promoting and celebrating western Canadian music, this four-day music conference hosted by the Western Canadian Music Alliance is interwoven with Victoria's Rifflandia festival. Attendees who sign up for the full delegate registration to attend the conference have automatic access to the exciting line up of BreakOut West showcases and Rifflandia shows.
Participants are given the opportunity to discover, educate, network and grow at the conference held at the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort and Spa and can check out sessions including how to promote and book tours as well as one-on-one mentor meetings with industry professionals. Once the hard work is done they can hit the shows around the city, from folk rock with Carmanah to Indian Bhangra fused with traditional Celtic music from Delhi to Dublin.
To finish off the event, the Western Canadian Music Awards will take place at the McPherson Playhouse on September 20, recognizing the excellence and achievements of new and emerging western Canadian artists. With over 23 different award categories and plenty of live performances from winners and nominees, this event is perfect for music lovers looking to support new talent. Acts playing the awards show include Tanya Tagaq, The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer, Jesse Roper (local), The Wet Secrets, Sarah MacDougall, Annette, and NoMeansNo unplugged. NoMeansNo - who are originally from Victoria! - are Hall of Fame inductees for this year.
Tickets can be purchased at the McPherson Playhouse. Rock on!
