It's called Canada's Haunted Capital for a reason. With a torrid history that comes to life during the month of October, visitors will have no shortage of Halloween spectacles to take in around the city.

In addition to a ton of great Halloween events happening all month long, the city has been completely decked out for the occasion. Here's where you can find the best Halloween decorations in Victoria.

Swarms of Bats in Trounce Alley

One of the city's most romantic spots and the ideal spot to stop for tapas or a cocktail, Trounce Alley sparkles with twinkling overhead lights and intricate 19th century architecture. Look up and you will see that swarms of bats have taken over the alley to create a spooky ambience.

Along Government Street

As you stroll along Victoria's iconic Government Street, you may experience the overwhelming sensation that someone (or something) is watching you. Could it be the trees themselves?

Market Scare

Don't let the warm exterior fool you, Market Square (or Market Scare, as it's known at this time of year) is no place for the faint of heart. Sure, you'll find lots of cool jewellery boutiques and a great cycling shop, but you never know what might be lurking in those shadowy alleyways...

Suspended Spiderwebs in Fan Tan Alley

In the heart of Canada's Oldest Chinatown lies the famous Fan Tan Alley. The narrowest commercial street in North America, the alley is worth a visit at any time of year but is especially eerie during Halloween when you'll find spider webs and other Halloween decorations overhead.

Bat Benches

The perfect photo op awaits! Keep your eyes peeled for the giant bat wings adorning many benches around downtown. They are located outside the Fairmont Empress (northwest corner of the Fairmont Empress Lawn and across the street at the Upper Causeway), at Centennial Square, outside the Bat Centre (near the fountain) and in Market Scare.

Haunted Bastion Square

While you won't see hanging broomsticks or flying bats, a night time visit to Bastion Square can always be a spooky experience. With some of Victoria's goriest history, Bastion Square is a well-known location for supernatural encounters and sightings. Take a Gruesome Tales of Bastion Square tour and learn all about it.

The Bat Centre

Formerly known at The Bay Centre, The Bat Centre has gone all-out for Halloween. Head to the Fort and Broad Street entrance to check out a bubbling, mystical fountain and a spinning bat tornado. (Tip: There's also a Bat Bench located right next to the fountain, which is great for photo ops.)
