3. Take a Musical Garden Tour

What mom doesn't love flowers and beautiful music? Take your mom on Victoria's 35th Annual Mother's Day Musical Garden Tour. Carried along by wonderful music, your two-day pass (valid May 13 & 14) will grant you exclusive passage to ten hand-picked, enchanting gardens.

Live music will be performed by students, faculty and guest musicians of the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Tip: There will also be a plant sale, and yes - the trains will be running!

4. Shop Local at the Bastion Square Sunday Market

Explore a unique selection of handcrafted pieces by woodworkers, potters, jewellers, leather workers, artists, fashion designers and more at the Bastion Square Sunday Market. You'll meet local makers while immersing yourself in one of Victoria's most famous historic squares.

Stroll through the market, chat with the artisans, and see if you can find something special as a Mother's Day gift. Tip: The market is open from 11am - 4pm on Sundays.

5. Take Her for Tea (or Craft Beer!)

Celebrate the love of mothers with a four-course Mother's Day High Tea at Abkhazi Garden. With three seatings (11am, 1pm & 3pm) you'll enjoy a special tea service in the serene and peaceful surroundings of Abkhazi Garden.

If tea isn't your mom's thing, try taking her on the "Knife and Fort" tour or a craft beer tour with Off The Eaten Track instead. On these walking tours, you will learn about the history and culture of Victoria while sipping and eating your way through some of the best local establishments in the city.

6. Share a Sweet Treat

Enjoy a coffee and dessert with mom at La Roux Patisserie in the heart of Victoria's Chinatown. A relatively new addition to Victoria's collection of wonderful bakeries, this French pastry shop is run by two women who really, really love food - and it shows. Choose from traditional French and French-inspired pastries like macarons, creme brulee, and filled croissants.

If you're taking something home for your mom or grandma, you absolutely can't go wrong with anything from Rogers' Chocolates. From classic Empress Squares to Victoria Creams and just about every kind of truffle you can imagine, they're sure to have something that your special lady will love.

Tip: Artisan Bistro will be offering free dessert for moms all day on Mother's Day!

7. Get Her a Thoughtful Gift

While most moms will be more than happy with the gift of quality time with family and friends, it's sometimes nice to get a physical gift, too! Get creative with your selection, and make it personal. Baggins Shoes on Lower Johnson Street has Victoria's largest selection of converse sneakers, and will custom-print your kicks with whatever images and graphics you choose. Get a special matching set for you and your momma, or surprise her with a unique pair just for her.

If your mom's into the more traditional gifts, you'll surely be able to find her something beautiful and memorable at Lugaro Jewellers, or at Jade Victoria, who specialize in jewellery and decorative art made of genuine BC jade. Of course, you can always opt for a classic bouquet from Petals Plus Florist as well.

8. Pamper Yourselves

The best part about taking your mom to the spa for Mother's Day, is that you get to go, too! This year, try an Immersion treatment at Sattva Spa in downtown Victoria, or opt for their signature self-guided Waterknot Sensory Journey, a treatment that includes aromatic steam, therapeutic ice, mud, and a sensory shower.

You can also choose to make an afternoon of it with an aromatherapy spa treatment at the Villa Eyrie Resort and Tuscan Spa. Located at the summit of the Malahat, you'll feel as though you're a world away as you take in spectacular views over the Saanich Inlet and enjoy the ultimate in relaxation. Tip: Stay for dinner, or even stay the night!

9. Get Your Heart Pumping

For the hardcore moms out there, a dirt bike lesson at Westshore Motocross Park is the perfect Mother's Day activity. Rent some bikes, take a lesson and enjoy the rush! This family-friendly facility has bikes for every rider's size and ability level, plus all the safety equipment you'll need. Tip: Call ahead to make sure they've got availability on the day you'd like to go.

If motorbikes aren't your mom's thing, choose instead to work up a sweat with an outdoor adventure. Victoria has lots of great hiking and walking trails, and you can even book a guided walk with a local tour guide who will tell you lots about Victoria along the way.

10. Toast to Mom

Say cheers to mom with a craft cocktail at one of Victoria's many wonderful cocktail lounges or wine bars. Victoria Distillers (home of the famous Victoria Gin) has live music on Saturday nights, as well as a Drink and Think Trivia Night every Friday beginning at 7pm.

If you're staying near downtown, Veneto Tapa Lounge is always a hit with moms who like a bit of spontaneity with their libations. Here, you'll "spin the wheel" for a creative cocktail made with your choice of base liquor and flavour profile. You can also find fabulous cocktails at Ferris' Grill and Oyster Bar, another locals' favourite.

Whatever you choose to do with your mom, all you really have to do is make sure you do it together. Choose from these ideas as starters, and put your own spin on the day!
