Commuter Rail Service

Commuter rail service is available on Vancouver Island, between Victoria and Courtenay, and is provided by VIA Rail on the Esquimalt & Nanaimo (E & N) Railway.

Stops along the way include Duncan, Chemainus, Ladysmith, Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach and Courtenay, with requested stops at Esquimalt, Palmer, Langford, Malahat, Cliffside, Strathcona Lodge, Shawnigan, Cobble Hill, Hillbank, Cowichan, Hayward, Cassidy, South Wellington, Starks, Wellington, Nanoose Bay, Dunsmuir, Deep Bay, Buckley Bay and Union Bay.

The train is a non-smoking vehicle and you may wish to bring a box lunch and drinks as there is no food service on the train. The pick-up location in Victoria is conveniently located downtown at the east end of the Johnson Street Bridge, where Pandora Avenue intersects Wharf Street.

Check the schedule and cost frequently, as seasonal changes may effect round-trip times. Rates are classified by age, as follows: adult, senior (60 and older), student (11-17; 18 or older requires an ISIC card) and child (2-11). Children age two and younger ride free when riding with a paying adult. Tickets can be purchased through Tourism Victoria or at the Victoria Esquimalt & Nanaimo station, 450 Pandora Avenue. There is an advantage to booking seven days in advance, as you will receive up to 35 per cent off the regular fare. Seniors receive an additional 10 per cent off.
