Long, warm days and star-filled evenings allow extra hours to savour the best Victoria has to offer. Food, drink and fun await, and thanks to an abundance of sunshine, colourful blossoms line the city streets.
Arts & Culture
Get your culture to go by getting it on the streets. In late July, the Victoria International Buskers Festival offers street theatre galore in the form of "busking," or performing in public places for gratuities such as money and edibles. For a packed calendar of live comedy, drama, dance, spoken word and musicals, the Victoria Fringe Festival in late August shows you how to "fringe." It's easy. Just choose your shows, get your tickets, then enjoy 11 days of entertainment. At the end of September, witness the explosion of 3-D and coloured chalk drawings at the Victoria International Chalk Festival, where artists transform roadways into spectacular works of art.
Food & Wine
Spend a day on the farm during Feast of Fields to enjoy a walking tour, tasting the bounty along the way. Think of it as a 40-course meal. For more urban appeal, try Taste: Victoria's Festival of Food and Wine, which features 100 selections from Victoria's vineyards, waters, fields and farms. The only rule? Come hungry.
Music & Film
Music fills the air at Victoria Symphony Splash, when the Inner Harbour becomes a floating outdoor concert stage. It's the largest annual outdoor symphony event in Canada. If jazz calls to you, listen up at TD Victoria International Jazz Fest, where 10 days of programming brings devoted fans to see renowned artists perform in June. The Vancouver Island Blues Bash offers blues of every shade under the sun. Local and international blues and R&B artists perform outdoors on Labour Day weekend. And for those who appreciate every colour of the rainbow, Victoria Pride Week celebrates empowerment of the LGBTQ community. Celebrate diversity with the Gay Pride Parade in July.
History & Heritage
From regal and elegant to humble and sturdy, boats come in all styles and sizes. Honour watercraft of all kinds and celebrate Victoria's maritime heritage at the Victoria Classic Boat Festival on Labour Day weekend. Other festival highlights include a steamboat parade, rowing regatta, dory races and the opening Sailpast & Salute.
Sports & Outdoors
Canada's biggest cycling event, the Victoria International Cycling Festival, has cyclists battling head-to-head in drag races. Don't miss BearTrax, an event showcasing mountain biking. Prefer the waterway over the roadway? The Dragon Boat Festival in mid-August features 90 teams, often in themed garb, competing in celebration of loyalty and commitment to the community.
