- Description: The Robert Bateman Centre is both an art gallery and a meeting place for collaboration, creative thinking, and networking about nature education initiatives. Featuring work from Canada’s most famous wildlife artist, the gallery unleashes the full scope of Robert Bateman’s work from the largest original painting to the smallest drawing. Crossing the years and continents, visitors can explore the life of this iconic artist from his childhood to his latest masterpiece. This collection of over 100 works is the largest ever assembled for public view. The Robert Bateman Centre is located on the second floor of the historic Steamship Terminal; a landmark building constructed in 1924 on Victoria’s beautiful Inner Harbour. The neo-classical structure was designed by Percy James and Francis Rattenbury who is also known for the design of the nearby Parliament Buildings of British Columbia and Empress Hotel. The Robert Bateman Centre features floor to ceiling windows with ocean front views of Victoria’s Inner Harbour. The Centre is across the street from the Parliamentary Buildings of British Columbia and within walking distance of Victoria’s downtown core. The space is made up of one central gallery (61’ x 17’) with eight adjoining galleries.
