Top Five Christmas Festivities

Travel Media Story Ideas - ChristmasFrom holiday lights on the Parliament Buildings to Father Christmas at the Royal BC Museum to the jingle of horses pulling carriages and clip clopping down the cobblestone streets, Christmastime in Victoria is truly magical. With so many attractions to choose from, deciding what to see and do can be tough. Rest assured, we've got you covered with our top five!

  1. The Butchart Gardens' Magic of Christmas

The Magic of Christmas begins casting its spell before you enter The Butchart Gardens. Stroll the paths with a warm apple cider as you take in the sights of tens of thousands of coloured lights combined with the natural beauty of the world renowned garden. The ever-popular Twelve Days of Christmas displays are tucked away about the gardens waiting to be discovered. Afterwards enjoy ice skating under the stars on the outdoor rink or take a spin on the classic Rose Carousel.

  2. Holiday Harbour Stroll

The Holiday Harbour Stroll is the perfect way to squeeze in maximum holiday cheer in a short amount of time. Stretching from one end of the Inner Harbour to the other, the harbour stroll includes stops at the Inn at Laurel Point for Canada's Gingerbread Showcase, Hotel Grand Pacific for the annual Bear Wear event, the Robert Bateman Centre and their amazing display of highly unique, up-cycled wreaths, the stunning Christmas lights of the Parliament Buildings and The Fairmont Empress for the Festival of Trees.

  3. Lighted Trucks and Boats

Christmas in the Victoria area features two very unique events: the annual Lighted Truck Parade and the Sidney Lighted Boat Parade. For the lighted truck parade, trucks of all shapes and sizes get decked out in Christmas lights and travel from Langford to downtown Victoria, delighting thousands of onlookers along the way. The Lighted Boat Parade is similar, but, as you guessed it, on the water! Illuminated ships travel along the Sidney coastline while families take in the spectacle from the shore.

  4. Concerts

Celebrate Christmas with the Victoria Symphony at their annual Christmas Pops concerts. This year it's a Sentimental Christmas Carol with a performances of a special version of the Charles Dickens classic.

  5. Christmas Under the Stars

What better way to get into the holiday spirit than with a classic Christmas film? Every December, hundreds of people get cozy beneath the harbour patio heaters at the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort and Spa to take in the annual Starlight Cinema. Guests can bring the whole family to enjoy Christmas movie classics. Admission is complimentary though donations to the Santa's Anonymous campaign are welcome.
