Featuring acclaimed Germans soprano Dorothee Mields, this concert focuses on three musical friends in Johannes Voorhout’s painting Allegory of Friendship – Johann Reinken, Dietrich Buxtehude and Johann Thiele, whose music revitalised Hamburg as a center of music during the Thirty Year’s War. A free city sheltered from war, Hamburg became a refuge for many musicians and through its wealth established a vibrant musical scene. This concert’s program may encourage you to ‘step into’ the intimate scene being portrayed and relish music that was inspired by the stile nuovo of Italy. Fourth concert of Pacific Baroque Festival 2025.

Destination Greater Victoria is honoured to be based on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples of the Songhees Nation and Xwsepsum Nation, whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.
