UVic Wind Symphony and the Naden Band: A Space Odyssey
This year’s annual combined performance with the UVic Wind Symphony and the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy takes us on a journey exploring the far reaches of space. For as long as humans have looked up to the stars, our imaginations have been fuelled by curiosity and excitement about what or who was out there. Our concert begins with classic works by Richard Strauss (Also Sprach Zarathrustra) and Gustav Holst (Jupiter from The Planets) setting the stage for a exciting musical odyssey with composers John Williams (E.T.), Jerry Goldsmith (Star Trek: First Contact), Ludwig Göransson (The Mandalorian), Robert Buckey (Pathway to the Stars), Joni Greene (Moonscape Awakening), Michael Markowksi (Saturn Returns), Stuart Phillips (Battlestar Galactica), and Satoshi Yagisawa (Perseus). Get your tickets early as this concert is bound to sell-out fast!
The Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy is one of six regular force military bands of the Canadian Forces and serves as the official musical unit of the Canadian Forces Maritime Forces Pacific Command (MARPAC). Many UVic School of Music alumni have gone on to perform with Canadian Military ensembles including the Naden Band.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Naden Band of Maritime Forces Pacific Scholarship in Music Performance, awarded annually to second- and third-year School of Music students who demonstrate excellence in brass, woodwind, and percussion performance.
