Catherine Callary

In the fall of 2015, Catherine took the opportunity to open Ottawa Tourism’s newly-minted Destination Development department. A proven relationship-builder, she has collaborated on several projects to elevate Ottawa’s competitive edge, including overseeing the DestinationNEXT diagnostic report card for Ottawa as a destination; developing the Ottawa Host online hospitality training modules; raising the funds and rallying the partners to kick-start a wayfinding signage program involving multiple private and public sector organizations; collaborating on the mapping of a new signature Capital Cycle Route; and most recently of developing a new funding program for destination development initiatives, made possible by the addition of a municipal accommodation tax in Ottawa. Catherine also continues to oversee the efforts to bring back some of the most successful sesquicentennial events that took place in Ottawa in 2017, as legacy experiences for the city.

Prior to joining Ottawa Tourism, Catherine worked with Tourism Kelowna, where she headed up the PR program that included travel media and corporate communications. During her time with Tourism Kelowna, she was responsible for collaborating to found Kelowna’s Farm to Table program which connected local farmers and chefs; landing the 2013 premiere episode of the Amazing Race Canada; and instigating PR coverage for the destination with exposure eclipsing one-half-billion. Catherine was named to Kelowna’s Forty Under 40 in 2015.

Catherine has a Masters degree in Communications and Media Studies from Concordia University in Montreal, and APR accreditation through the Canadian Public Relations Society. She serves on the Ottawa Markets Board of Directors, Ottawa Tourism’s Rural Tourism Committee, and is Chair to the Ottawa Film Office Board of Directors. Catherine has been a speaker and organization spokesperson on destination development topics, including at the Destinations International Annual Congress, the International Indigenous Tourism Conference, and the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario Annual Conference.
