Yvette Rasmussen

Program Manager, Toronto Metro University, Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC)

A proud member of the Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation in British Columbia, Yvette has dedicated her life work to advocating for underserved and marginalized populations spending much of her career in Calgary, Alberta. An accomplished change catalyst, she served as the CEO of one of the nation's largest family homeless response systems. Yvette was a steering committee member responsible for introducing Canada's first Homeless Management Information System and establishing recognition of the unique needs of Indigenous families in homelessness. As a Senior Director of an innovative primary healthcare network credited for implementing mobile health and dental care in Canada, she advocated for affordable housing and seamless access to the social determinants of health.

In 2015, Yvette moved to the Okanagan Valley, where she founded an award-winning website known for mapping Indigenous road-trips and crafting responsible travel kits. During this time, she joined the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association contributing to the development of a comprehensive responsible business model, before joining an internationally renowned consulting firm as their Director of Indigenous Engagement. In this role, Yvette is proud to have worked on the outreach and communication of Canada's First Nation class-action lawsuits to Indigenous communities.

Yvette brings her business acumen and communications skills to her role with the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada. Working on the development and execution of the Northern WE in Tourism study is the culmination her life’s work
