Frequently Asked Questions

When is IMPACT being held?

Monday - Wednesday, January 23-26, 2022 with a Day of IMPACT being held on Sunday,January 22, 2022 ( for an additional fee).

Where is IMPACT being held?

Victoria, BC at the Victoria Conference Centre.

Are day only fees available?

Unless you are a presenter or speaker at the conference, full fees apply.

Is IMPACT an in person conference, virtual or hybrid?

We are planning for an in person conference.

What is your refund policy if IMPACT does not go ahead or changes to a fully virtual meeting?

The organizers of the IMPACT Sustainable Travel and Tourism Conference are currently planning for an in-person conference in January 2022 as this is the richest form for interaction and engagement. As referenced in other places on this website and registration platform we are requiring that all delegates be double vaccinated as this is consistent with the recommendations and current restrictions of health orders currently in place in British Columbia. You can register with confidence knowing that if further health restrictions are imposed over the winter that organizers will adjust to move the conference to be either a hybrid or online conference, however we are not planning those delivery methods at this time. Should health orders require a change in format, organizers will work with all registered delegates on partial or full refunds as appropriate. Decisions will be made in a timely fashion and will be communicated to all delegates efficiently.

Will there be opportunities to attend IMPACT virtually or to access recordings of the event?

At this time we are not planning to host any hybrid or virtual sessions or recording the session. We will be providing a report on key findings following the conference.

If I am presenting at IMPACT do I have to pay registration fees?

The program manager will discuss with you the options you have to attend IMPACT, as a speaker or presenter.

What COVID protocols will be in place to protect delegates if this is an in person meeting?

IMPACT is being held at the Victoria Conference Centre, where staff, contractors and suppliers have all been trained on creating the safest possible experience for delegates, as per WorkSafe BC’s Safety Plan. We will be following all provincial health orders and will be arranging meeting space to ensure safe distancing is always enforced. As well, ConnectSeven is handling all logistics and were part of the BC Meetings and Events Working Group, responsible for creating the BC Safe Restart Guidelines for meetings and events.

Do you have to be vaccinated to attend IMPACT?

Yes, proof of vaccination with two doses is required.

How will this be confirmed?

All delegates will be asked to show their proof when they pick up their delegate packages.

Are there scholarships or discounts available to attend IMPACT?

We are providing an early bird registration discount until November 30th as well as a student rate.

Are there group rates available to attend IMPACT?

No.

Who puts on the IMPACT Conference?

IMPACT was co-founded in 2018 by Destination Greater Victoria,  Synergy Enterprises, Starboard Enterprises and TartanBond ( previously Beattie Tartan).

Where does the money go from IMPACT?

Currently we operate IMPACT at a breakeven basis with the co-founders investing time and funds for operations.

I would like to speak/present at IMPACT who do I speak to?

Please connect with our program manager -- as we are always interested in new, inspiring speakers.  We also encourage everyone who is attending to have a voice -- and have set up our sessions to include and encourage delegate participation.

Are there sponsorship opportunities available for IMPACT?

Yes there are sponsorship opportunities available, and we will have Starr McMichael be in touch with you directly.

I would like my destination to host IMPACT in the future, how do I apply?

IMPACT was created as an annual conference for  Destination Greater Victoria as the host destination. Due to the amount of investment the team at Destination Greater Victoria puts into hosting the conference every year, we do not anticipate changing the venue, but have in the past assisted Destinations in hosting workshops and presentations on the findings and case studies presented every year.

What is the Day of IMPACT and why is there an extra charge?

The Day of IMPACT was created to provide delegates with a hands-on opportunity to experience Southern Vancouver Island and Victoria - and the destination’s own journey towards greater sustainability and resiliency in tourism. Due to the amount of coordination that goes into creating a day that provides real value for delegates including transportation and food costs, we provide this as a separate, add-on event. We also understand that not everyone can include an extra day so by separating it out of the conference program we help keep registration fees more affordable.

Do I have to stay in one of the hotels listed on the website?

The hotels highlighted  for IMPACT have each offered special rates for this conference and are big supporters. While we encourage delegates to choose one of our host hotels, we are a destination blessed with many accommodation choices and you are welcome to explore all options.
