Kelly de Schaun

Executive Director, Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees and Convention and Visitors Bureau

Kelly de Schaun is a native Texan, graduated from the University of Houston in Hotel/ Restaurant Management with a minor in Spanish and a Masters degree from the University of Texas at Austin in Community and Economic Development. She spent 20 years working in the wider Caribbean region as a destination director for the private sector in some of the area’s most prestigious destinations. In 2011, she returned to the United States to assume the position of Executive Director of the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees.

The Park Board manages the island’s robust tourism economy, hosting in excess of 7.2 million visitors annually.   Under Kelly’s leadership, the Park Board has achieved significant milestones including record-breaking tourism revenues, the Gulf’s largest beach building project to date and the recognition of the institution as an important catalyst for community development and economic growth. Today, Galveston serves as the 4th largest volume cruise port in the United States with over 1 million passengers annually and has committed to the construction of a new terminal which will berth the globe’s largest cruise vessels. Kelly currently serves on the board for the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce, Galveston Economic Development Partnership and on the executive committee for the Texas Travel Industry Association.
