PAULINE J. SHELDON, Ph.D.

Professor Emerita, University of Hawai’i USA

Pauline is an educator, researcher, author, mentor and weaver. She served as Professor and also Dean at University of Hawaii School of Travel Industry Management. Her research and lecturing focus on sustainable tourism management, transformational and regenerative tourism, social entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility and wellness tourism.

Pauline is an accomplished researcher with over seventy academic journal publications and seven books. Her most popular books are “Social Entrepreneurship and Tourism”, “Tourism Information Technology” and “Wellness Tourism: Mind, Body, Spirit, Place”.   She is also an innovator and leader. She co-founded the Tourism Education Futures Initiative (TEFI) and the TRINET research network.  She is a frequent keynote speaker at international conferences. Pauline has received many international awards for her contribution to sustainable tourism including the Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA) Lifetime Achievement Award. She was the first woman to receive the UNWTO Ulysses Award, and the first and only woman to serve as President of the prestigious International Academy for the Study of Tourism. She has also received many awards for teaching excellence.
