5 Things That Make the Victoria Conference Centre Audio-Visual Topnotch

Posted on October 9, 2018

The following blog was written by the Director of Event Technology, Jim McLennan of Freeman Audio Visual Canada and has been edited for this channel.

With nearly 20 years of industry experience, Jim McLennan of Freeman Audio Visual Canada (Freeman) has worked with event spaces all over Victoria and is an expert in providing the most appropriate audio-visual solutions for clients in Victoria. Here are his top five reasons the Victoria Conference Centre’s audio visual is a leader in Victoria, B.C.

1. Wi-Fi That Works

As an event host, you want to ensure your delegates can tweet, post, stream and work remotely during downtime. That’s why the Victoria Conference Centre made it a priority to receive a $2 million upgrade from Freeman to increase the bandwidth to 500 megabits/S. Now, no matter where you are in the building, you’ll experience consistent wifi, which means no interruptions and seamless internet usage.

2. Dedicated Video Conference Suite

The VCC’s video conference suite makes worldwide meetings possible in the most state-of-the-art way. A cozy 209 square-foot space already hosts nearly 50 meetings and events annually. Take advantage of sports bar sized screens to connect with colleagues from across the globe.

3. Customizable Digital Signage

Meet and exceed your delegates expectation with conversations starters, entertainment and screens showcasing live photos from the event. One way the VCC can fill these needs is with the numerous digital signage stands strategically placed throughout the building. They’re all networked and can be customized to display an event’s unique content, direct people towards a specific area. Here’s the best part, the Freeman team can program them to display an event or conference’s agenda. Better yet, it can act as a social media wall and will display all photos posted that use an event-specific hashtag.

4. Extremely Knowledgeable Team

The VCC has some impressive audio-visual offerings like custom set pieces, brand-new Epson laser projectors, and a full range of lighting and rigging equipment but what makes the events held at the VCC run smoothly and effectively is Freeman’s outstanding team.

The Freeman team pools together a whopping 150 years' worth of event experience and is complete with an Operations Tech, Traffic Manager, Video and Networks Specialist and so much more. Their Lighting and Rigging Coordinator, Ron has 23 years' experience alone! Bring them your event ideas and vision, and they’ll help you wow your guests, or follow them on Instagram to see what they’ve done for clients lately.

5. Occupancy for up to 2000 attendees

It takes the right team to execute a flawless event, but what’s near as important is having enough space and equipment to execute one. Annual events held at the VCC like the computer programming competition, Battlesnake grow exponentially year after year, and each year they require expanded internet access points and bandwidth to accommodate their growth. To give you a frame of reference, the Battlesnake competition started off being held in the Lecture Theatre (400 seats), and years later they’re now booked to fill the entire ballroom with nearly 1000 attendees.

This year, Freeman installed a permanent internet solution which is a great example of how they’re continually increasing in-house equipment to better provide clients.

If you’ve been to the VCC, you know it’s a world-class space to host your next event. It’s Victoria’s largest conference facility and is fully equipped with outstanding audio-visual technology and a great team ready to best serve your event. It’s also set to host multiple exciting upcoming events like PCMA’s Canadian Innovation Conference in November!
