WestShore: Colwood, Langford, Highlands, View Royal and Metchosin

Don't miss this family-friendly waterfront community that enjoys a rich heritage and a unique connection to nature. Greater Victoria's WestShore region includes View Royal, Langford, Colwood, Metchosin and Highlands. Most of this area isn't far from downtown Victoria, making it a great base for your stay.

Rich in history

Be sure to take an opportunity to visit Hatley Park National Historic Site, a beautifully preserved Edwardian estate complete with an ivy-draped manor house, seaside lawns and formal gardens. Visitors to Hatley Park can walk in the steps of a super hero. One of Hatley Castle's most high-profile movie appearances is as Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in the popular X-Men films and television series including Smallville and Arrow.

Nearby, check out the century-old gun batteries and commanding sea views at Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites. This park like setting is home to a historic coastal artillery fort and Canada's oldest West Coast lighthouse. More military history is on display at the Naval & Military Museum at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt.

Connected to nature

It's easy to be active outdoors in the WestShore. Stroll along the West Song Walkway, a 2.4-kilometre (1.5-mile) seaside path running along the shoreline from downtown Victoria, or cycle along the Galloping Goose Regional Trail, which winds through 55 picturesque kilometres (34 miles) of the WestShore communities. Stop for a microbrew or a ploughman's lunch at a neighbourhood pub; you've earned it!

In the WestShore's Langford area, notable physical features include three prominent lakes (Langford Lake, Glen Lake and Florence Lake) and reservoir, Mount Finlayson and Mount Wells, and Goldstream Provincial Park.
