IMAX screening of Story Pole: Indigenous Veterans and the Tallest Pole in the World
Free
Join us on July 2 at 5 p.m. for a special free screening of Story Pole: Indigenous Veterans and the Tallest Pole in the World, followed by a moderated Q&A with director Geoffrey Bird, Royal Roads University professor in the School of Communication and Culture.
Guided by First Nations Elders, this documentary explores Indigenous veterans and how they are remembered today. It traces the 1956 raising of the story pole at MEE-qan (Beacon Hill Park), carved by Mungo Martin, Henry Hunt, and David Martin, while uncovering the mystery of the veterans’ plaque and its connection to truth and reconciliation.
This screening marks the 70th anniversary of the raising of the story pole.
Reserve your free tickets.
