Join us at Ross Bay Villa Historic House Museum, on October 17th at 7:30, to explore the complexities of pregnancy in the Victorian era. The Roscoe family, the Villa’s first inhabitants in the 1860s and 70s, nurtured their growing family in Victoria without electricity or modern prenatal care. What was life like for pregnant Victorian women? In this illustrated lecture, learn about 19th-century pregnancy calendars, corsets, and maternity dresses alongside fascinating accounts of pregnancy from Victorian diaries. Historical replica maternity wear also will be displayed.

Presented by Mary Elizabeth Leighton and Lisa Surridge from the University of Victoria and members of Victorian Vogue Historical Fashions. Tickets are $10 and must be booked ahead of time at https://tinyurl.com/yckax4vs as seating is limited. All proceeds support the Ross Bay Villa Society, the volunteer based society that runs and owns Ross Bay Villa.
