The Island in the Middle of Everywhere is a photography and video exhibit that journeys to Xwe’etay/Lasqueti Island, showcasing the work of the Xwe’etay/Lasqueti Archaeological Project.

The exhibit reveals the island’s rich archaeological record, breathtaking landscapes and enduring cultural significance, highlighting its long-standing relationship with Coast Salish peoples. Through immersive visuals and thoughtful storytelling, visitors gain a deeper appreciation for the connections between people, place and time, while discovering how archaeological research helps uncover and share the stories embedded in this remarkable island landscape.

This exhibit was developed in partnership with Xwe’etay/Lasqqueti Archaeology Project, Simon Fraser University and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Destination Greater Victoria is honoured to be based on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples of the Songhees Nation and Xwsepsum Nation, whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.
