By Donation

The Sidney Museum is hosting several movie nights this fall on topics related to our current exhibits “Lost Liberties: The War Measures Act” and “Displacing Differences”. On November 8th we will be showing “Island of Shadows: D’Arcy Island Leper Colony, 1891-1924”.

In the late 19th-early 20th century, D’Arcy Island was where the federal government sent people affected with leprosy for containment. The harsh conditions of this quarantine station was where 49 primarily Asian men suffering from the diseases lived. “Island of Shadows: D’Arcy Island Leper Colony, 1891-1924” is a documentary that examines the factors contributing to its creation and to the inhumane treatment those that were forced to live there.

The screening will start at 7:00pm at the Sidney Museum, 2423 Beacon Avenue, Lower Level. Admission is by donation. Please RSVP to [email protected] so we can get a sense of numbers. F
