“My artistic expression is deeply rooted in my personal experiences, Indigenous heritage, and a keen awareness of what truly captivates me. These elements collectively shape my evolving artistic journey.” – Barb DeRousie

Barb DeRousie is a self-taught, full-time artist based in her birthplace of Victoria, British Columbia. Initially specializing in watercolour, Barb has expanded her practice to embrace the dynamic world of mixed media, allowing her to express her unique interpretation of the natural environment around her.

Through her artistic endeavours, Barb employs a diverse range of techniques, incorporating layers of acrylic paint, collage elements, markers, and various mixed media materials. This approach reflects her intuitive creative process, which is deeply rooted in her life experiences and how she identifies with her Indigenous heritage.

Barb is an active member with local art groups such as the Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Society, Scattered Artists, and the Arts and Culture Colwood Society. Also affiliated with the Gage Gallery Arts Collective, situated in Bastion Square, Victoria, Barb collaborates with fellow artists and actively promotes local artistic expression. At the “Gage Second Story”, a newly established studio and workshop space located above the Gage Gallery, Barb guides creative workshops. You can find her original artwork, prints, cards and ever popular Wearable Art Earrings at participating locations.

Additionally, she is a participating artist at the EJ Hughes Gallery in Duncan, B.C., further extending her reach within the regional art scene.
