The UVic Wind Symphony, led by maestro Steven Capaldo, presents an exciting evening of original and newly commissioned works that highlight the creativity of emerging and diverse composers from UVic and beyond. This vibrant program features world premieres by UVic student composers Eilish McAree and Luke Ongman, alongside music by Kevin Day, Cait Nishimura, Peter Meechan, Lindsay Stetner, and Daisuke Shimizu. A highlight of the concert is the premiere of a new Haida-inspired piece composed by Alana-Joy Parrish-Johnson—local educator and UVic alumna—exploring themes of gratitude and connection to the creator. This performance features vocal and instrumental students from Mt. Douglas, Spectrum, Belmont, and Esquimalt Secondary Schools, celebrating intergenerational collaboration through music.

Destination Greater Victoria is honoured to be based on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples of the Songhees Nation and Xwsepsum Nation, whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.
