Youth Climate Stewardship Seminar
Youth Climate Stewardship will focus on fostering climate stewardship by inviting budding environmentalists (geared towards middle school through university ages) to attend a youth-focused seminar led by queer climate leaders. This event aims to inspire youth to embody climate action, provide examples of queer success in the environmental field, and learn about climate mitigation and adaptation work. Local queer experts working in the climate realm will be invited to speak about their work, passions, and the paths that led them there. This program will address barriers to queer involvement in science and inspire climate-based career paths and grassroots volunteering opportunities for youth environmentalists.
This event is part of the Queering Climate Action event series. This series is an exploration in integrating queer perspectives and artistic methods into climate work. “Queering” climate action is about uplifting queer voices and perspectives on climate action, and making climate work more transdisciplinary. To “queer” something means to examine it through a queer lens that challenges normative ideas – within this event series, this means questioning dominant narratives and power structures within climate work, and making sure that climate action includes the values and opinions of oppressed peoples.
