Paul Nursey

Paul Nursey

CEO, Destination Greater Victoria

Paul Nursey joined Destination Greater Victoria in January 2014. He is an experienced and respected senior tourism leader and progressive tourism marketing, strategy and branding expert with 20 years of tourism-related leadership and management experience.

He has held leadership positions with the Canadian Tourism Commission, Rocky Mountaineer Rail Tours, Mount Seymour Resorts and Tourism Vancouver — the Greater Vancouver Convention and Visitors Bureau. Widely regarded as one of Canada’s top tourism policy minds, Paul serves on the board of the Tourism Industry Association of British Columbia as the Policy Committee Chair, and the Tourism Industry Association of Canada as the Advocacy Committee Chair.

During his tenure at Destination Greater Victoria, Paul has transformed the organization using the Balanced Scorecard performance management framework. Successes to date include accommodation occupancy rates increasing from 66% in 2014 to 76% in 2018, with seasonality significantly reduced. In 2016, Paul negotiated a new funding relationship with lcoal hoteliers, the City of Victoria and Province of B.C. that enables Destination Greater Victoria to better execute strategic planning over the medium term. Under Paul's leadership Destination Greater Victoria has assumed responsibility in a natural evolution with SportHost Victoria to partner on sports tourism in Greater Victoria. He has also overseen increased conference business including co-founding the IMPACT Sustainability Travel & Tourism Conference, which has completed two successful years and is currently preparing for its third year.

Paul holds a degree in Regional Planning from Simon Fraser University and has completed the Executive Development in Tourism program from the University of Hawai’i at Mãnoa. He has also completed the Institute of Corporate Directors Not-for-Profit Governance Essentials Program and is currently enrolled in the full Directors Education Program.

Miranda Ji

Miranda Ji

Vice President of Sales, Victoria Conference Centre, Business Events Victoria

Miranda Ji has  extensive sales and hospitality experience, having worked in senior sales management roles with the Victoria Marriott Inner Harbour and Starbucks.

Ji joined Tourism Victoria as Corporate Sales Manager in Vancouver before moving to Victoria to take on the role of Director of Sales, Victoria Conference Centre and Business Events Victoria. Her outstanding sales results and proven leadership led to her current role with the organization. 

Ji completed a degree in Education from the University of Victoria. She holds the Certified Meeting Professional designation from the Convention Industry Council, and the Certified Association Sales Executive designation from the Professional Convention Management Association. Ji has also completed the Intitute of Corporate Directors Not-for-Profit Essentials Program.

Ji has also served as Vice President of Partnerships while on the board of Meeting Professionals International’s B.C. Chapter, and as Director at Large on the Vancouver Island South Film and Media Commission.

James Adams
James Adams

CFO

James Adams is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 10 year experience helping local businesses stay competitive and be successful. 

James comes from a background in larger commercial organisations in the hospitality sector. Recent roles including CFO of New Zealand`s largest Class 4 Gambling organisation The Lion Foundation and prior to that he ran the New Zealand portfolio of Lend Lease Primelife`s high end retirement villages. Lend Lease being at the time the largest owner operator of retirement villages in Australasia. James brings a strong focus on commercial disciplines and a passion for helping local businesses to the Destination Greater Victoria Team.

Jennifer Adsett

Vice President, Marketing Communications

Jennifer has over fifteen years marketing and publishing experience, having worked in senior roles with Island Savings Credit Union and the University of Victoria.

Jennifer joined Destination Greater Victoria in May 2013. Before assuming the role of VP Marketing Communications, Jennifer was part of the award‐winning team responsible for developing and executing a range of strategies and tactics including B2B and B2C campaigns. She has played a lead role in developing concepts and creating content for web and social media. Jennifer has a strong understanding of online best practices, SEO and content optimization, and managed the migration of Destination Victoria’s desktop and mobile sites to a new responsive site in 2017.

Prior to joining Destination Greater Victoria, Jennifer played a central role in Island Savings Credit Union’s rebrand including planning, production and relationship management.

Graham Wallace
Graham Wallace

Executive Director, Governance, Research and Corporate Communications

Graham Wallace joined Destination Greater Victoria in February 2017 and has management experience in the tourism, retail, manufacturing, distribution and insurance industries. He has also held senior consultancy roles internationally and worked with universities, government agencies and NGOs in a wide range of multi-stakeholder environments. 

Graham holds PhD and Master of Science research degrees as well as a MBA degree from Durham University Business School in the UK. Graham brings a broad analytics, governance, applied research and project management background to Destination Greater Victoria’s team. He is also trained and experienced in Balanced Scorecard, which is the framework underpinning DGV’s strategy and performance evaluation.

Graham is also currently overseeing DGV’s Membership Services to provide support and information for our members. 

Tracey Sims
Tracey Sims

Vice President Major Events & Conferences

Tracey Sims is an experienced hotelier with more than 30 years in the hospitality industry, having worked in all areas of finance including Controller, food and beverage and operations. Tracey has a proven record in leadership with strong human resources and finance experience coupled with her extensive business acumen. In 2017, she was recognized as General Manager of the Year (Harbour Towers) by Crescent Hotels & Resorts who manages over 100 Hotels located in both the USA and Canada. Under Tracey’s leadership the Hotel was also recognized as having the Revenue Management Team of the Year (2016). Born and raised in Victoria she has strong ties to the community and enjoys volunteering with local organizations. Tracey holds a Masters Certificate in Leadership with a focus on Finance and Revenue Management through Cornell University.

Keith Wells
Keith Wells 

Executive Director, Greater Victoria Sport Tourism Commission

Keith has been involved in the BC sports community for over 25 years. First, as a sportscaster with CHEK-TV and Global BC, and most recently as Founder of SendtoNews, a sports-video company based in Victoria, that delivers highlights for sports organizations across Canada and the US. Keith has extensive local, provincial and national sports contacts and he is enthusiastic about helping to attract more, diverse sporting events to the Capital Region.
