Mungo Martin House

475 Belleville St Victoria BC .

Mungo Martin was hired in 1952 by the Royal British Columbia Museum to create works of Northwest Coastal Art as display pieces and examples. The result was Wawadit’la, a Kwakwaka’wakw “big house”, at Thunderbird Park in front of the museum. He also constructed a huge totem pole, carved out of cedar, standing just over 127 feet tall. It was raised in 1956 and remained standing until 2000. For more information, please email Tourism Victoria’s Visitor Centre at [email protected], or phone 250-953-2033 or toll-free 800-663-3883.
