Mystic Beach

Tucked along the rugged coastline of Vancouver Island’s southwest shore, Mystic Beach is one of the most rewarding day trips from Victoria. Located within Juan de Fuca Provincial Park near the community of Jordan River, this wild and windswept beach is known for its dramatic sandstone cliffs, sea cave, driftwood-strewn shoreline, and a waterfall that tumbles from the forest above directly onto the beach. The journey is part of the experience. Visitors reach Mystic Beach via a moderately challenging 2-kilometre hiking trail that winds through old-growth rainforest, crosses suspension bridges, and descends toward the ocean. While the hike is manageable for many visitors, sturdy footwear is recommended, particularly during wetter months when the trail can be muddy and slippery.
At the beach, towering evergreens give way to a broad stretch of sand and smooth stones where crashing waves, salty sea air, and the sounds of the forest create a sense of peaceful isolation. At low tide, you can wander along the shoreline, and take in sweeping views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the distant Olympic Peninsula. The beach’s iconic waterfall is often the highlight, especially after periods of rain when it flows more dramatically. Located about 90 minutes west of downtown Victoria, Mystic Beach offers visitors a true taste of Vancouver Island’s untamed coastline and is an ideal adventure for those seeking a blend of rainforest hiking, ocean scenery, and a little wilderness magic.
