About Symphony in the Summer

Symphony in the Summer is one of North America's largest symphonic gatherings. From late July through early August, the Victoria Symphony along with a selection of performers, play at some of the most iconic venues in the region, including the world-renown Butchart Gardens, Christ Church Cathedral, and the iconic Inner Harbour. Within these stunning settings, visitors can experience classical performances like they've never seen (or heard!) before.

This year's lineup

Back for their 86th anniversary, this year's Symphony in the Summer Festival is truly special. The Pacific Opera joins the Victoria Symphony for an unforgettable night at The Butchart Gardens (the concert is included with the price of admission to the Gardens). The sound of strings fills the air as the Victoria Symphony brings their classical charm to Christ Church Cathedral. Under the baton of Andrei Feher, this performance features blends Romantic elegance and Hungarian-inflected melodies, while VS Principal 2nd Violin Kimberly Durflinger takes the spotlight in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 1. The festival concludes Sunday, August 9th at Qualicum Beach.

Join the Victoria Symphony, local young violinist Malak El Ouadghiri, and Maestro Giuseppe Pietraroia for an unforgettable summer evening of orchestral favourites. The program features selections from Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances, Saint-Saëns’s Violin Concerto No. 3, Brahms’s Serenade No. 2 in A major, and more. Set against the stunning backdrop of The Butchart Gardens, this open-air concert is included with admission and invites you to relax on a bench seat or bring your own chair and blanket as you enjoy an evening of classical splendour with more than 2,000 fellow music lovers.
