The Butchart Gardens

Make this Mother's Day a whimsical one with a stop at the enchanting Butchart Gardens in Brentwood Bay. This National Historic Site of Canada is one of the world's most renown floral display gardens. Making Mother's Day extra special, The Butchart Gardens are offering a special Mother's Day Afternoon Tea in the Dining Room Restaurant featuring savoury sandwiches, warm pastries, and house-made sweet. If your mom's more of a brunch woman, dig into a memorable spread at Butchart's Blue Poppy Restaurant featuring charcuterie, cheese, fresh seafood, small bites, and hot items, and of course, beautiful house-made deserts. While you're at the Gardens this Mother's Day, make sure you check out the Greater Victoria Concert Band, who will be performing outdoors by the waterwheel from 1:00-2:00PM.

Local tip: It's about a 30-minute drive from downtown Victoria to the Butchart Gardens. Didn't bring a car? No worries, you can hop aboard a round-trip coach from downtown to the Gardens and back with Sightseeing Victoria.

Mother's Day Brunch Buffets

It's a Mother's Day edition of Victoria's favourite meal, brunch! Treat mom to brunch in the stunning ocean view Grand Lobby and Dining Room of the Oak Bay Beach Hotel, where the celebration features a live pianist and a small take-home gift for mom. Paired with brilliant views of the Haro Strait, mom can expect an assortment of fruits, breads, baked goods, buttermilk pancakes, eggs benedict, bacon, sausage, home fries, smoked salmon, and artisan charcuterie and cheese. There are four seatings to choose from 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 1:00 PM, and 1:30 PM - reservations are required, adults are just $129PP, children 4-12 are $59PP, and children under 3 are complimentary.

Mother's Day Musical Garden Tour

Make it a Mother's Day like no other with a Mother's Day Musical Garden Tour. Surrounded by music and nature, spend the afternoon garden-hopping across nine of Victoria's most beautiful private gardens while enjoying performances by the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Tickets are just $45 and include two-day access to all nine gardens. This is one of Victoria's most popular Mother's Day traditions, we recommend getting your tickets before they're gone! Tucked away in nature, situated in a barn on their famed lavender farm, mom can peruse an array of handcrafted goods from our region's best local makers. While you're there, be sure to try some of Bilston's lavender infused snacks and beverages, or grab a Hustle & Dough pizza fresh from the outdoor cob oven. Entry is just $5 and children under 16 are free! Located 30-minutes from downtown Victoria, Bilston Creek Farm feels like it's a world away, as a working lavender farm situated amidst an orchard, and one of the oldest properties on Canada's west coast, the space is an Instagram-worthy haven that's sure to give mom some great family photos.

Put mom at the centre of the story this Mother's Day with a book from one of Victoria's many bookstores. Find Munro's at 1108 Government Street, just a 5-minute walk from the Victoria Visitor Centre. Can your mom never have enough books? Russell Books on Fort Street has got you covered. As Canada's largest independent bookstore, Russell Books is jam packed from floor to ceiling with a seemingly endless library to explore, you're certain to find a few reads for mom that she can't find anywhere else.

Local tip: Upper Fort Street has earned the nickname "Antiques Row", a great place to take mom if she's into antiquing.

Make sure mom starts every morning off right with a stop at one of Victoria's tea of coffee shops. The brainchild of Canada's Queen of Team Silk Road Tea, located in Victoria's historic Chinatown, shares their passion for tea with an assortment of blends of the world's finest organic teas. Serving BC since 1894, Murchie's Tea & Coffee has been Victoria's go to for all things coffee and tea for over 130 years! Stop by their shop to find an assortment of the world's finest teas and coffee beans to build out mom's collection. Murchie's is located next door to Munro's Books, making it a great place to stop by afterward, enjoy a coffee, and maybe skim the first few pages of that new book.

Local tip: Stop by Murchie's cafe afterwards and spoil yourself to a coffee and a sweet treat!

For the hobbyist mom, Victoria has no shortage of stores to keep mom active. Puzzle Lab offers heirloom-quality wooden jigsaws that are guaranteed to provide hours of entertainment.
