Your Summer Guide to Active Adventures

Greater Victoria is known for its stunning landscapes and outdoor activities. From the mountains to the sea, there’s so much to explore on Canada’s west coast. Whether you’re seeking an adrenaline rush or a leisurely afternoon activity, we’ve compiled some of our favourite sports activities in the city.

Go Cycling on the Galloping Goose

If there’s one outdoor activity where Victoria really shines, it has to be cycling. Home to the Galloping Goose and Lochside Regional Trail, getting around Greater Victoria is a breeze with these superb bike paths—just ask Sarka Cullis-Suzuki! With scenery ranging from cedar forests to ocean views, you’ll feel rejuvenated on even a short excursion. For bike rentals, we recommend checking out Cycle BC, Oak Bay Bikes, Pedego Electric Bikes or The Pedaler.

If you’re looking for some mountain biking options, Mount Work, Jordie Lunn Bike Park, and Sea to Sea Regional Park offer a range of tracks for all abilities.

Embark on a Paddleboarding Tour

Victoria’s waterways are perfect for a relaxing sightseeing adventure. With rentals and tours available from Ocean River Sports, Pacifica Paddle Sports and South Island SUP, you can choose your own adventure as you take in the serene beauty of the Gorge, Inner Harbour or Saanich Inlet. A paddleboarding or kayaking adventure always comes with the chance of a spontaneous wildlife encounter, so come prepared to snap some photos!

Play Pickleball

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in Canada, and for good reason: it’s accessible, easy to learn and a ton of fun! You can find pickleball courts throughout the city—including in the heart of Beacon Hill Park—but we’re especially excited about a recent addition to the local scene: pickleball at the Victoria Public Market. With rentals at $25/hr (including paddles and balls), Victoria’s newest indoor court makes for a nice break in the day. While you’re at the market, be sure to stop by The Art of Slow Food (right next door!) for a bite to eat.

Go for a Hike

Surrounded by mountains, Greater Victoria offers a number of hiking trails for adventurers of all experience levels. Try PKOLS (Mt Douglas) for panoramic views of the region or take a short trip out to East Sooke Park for an alluring experience in a temperate rainforest. If you’re looking for something even more immersive, check out Rainforest Tours for some half- and full-day guided hiking options. As an additional resource, we’ve compiled 10 of our favourite walks & hikes in this Take a Walk blog.

Soar Through the Air on a Zipline

For adrenaline junkies, WildPlay Victoria and Adrena Zipline Adventures are the place to be. Experience the thrill of flying high through treetop canopies while taking in impressive views. It’s a perfect activity for groups or families looking for a dash of adventure.

Play a Round of Golf

Greater Victoria is a golfer’s dream with exceptional ocean views and equally impressive courses, including Bear Mountain Resort, Cedar Hill Golf Course, Highland Pacific Golf and Olympic View Golf Course. For a round overlooking the Saanich Inlet, Arbutus Ridge Golf Club is also a great option. And for more casual players looking for a quick outing, Henderson Par 3 offers an easy round in the middle of the city.

Go Rock Climbing

If rock climbing is your thing, you have to check out Crag X Climbing Centre—Victoria’s premier indoor climbing gym. It’s perfect for beginners and experienced climbers alike, with varying degrees of difficulty. Whether you’re going solo or part of a group, Crag X is sure to be a good time.

If you’re bringing your own gear, Greater Victoria has many outdoor climbing options as well, including Mount Work and Mount Wells Regional Park.

Set Sail

Victoria’s coastal location makes it a prime spot to give sailing a try. With options available for complete beginners and seasoned sailors alike—we recommend checking out 3HourSail and AdventureCo. Destinations—there are many options to get out on the water. Take in a unique perspective of Greater Victoria and immerse yourself in the raw power of the ocean, with plenty of opportunities for wildlife sightings.

Go on a Fishing Charter

Depending on the specifics of your desired outing, we recommend 2 Reel Fishing Adventures, No Limit Charters and KingSize Adventures.
