Victoria is a fantastic place to walk, but for those who like to make a stronger connection with nature, the region has fantastic hiking, biking, and walking trails for hikers of all skill levels. The Galloping Goose Regional Trail offers 60km of mixed-use trails and paths, from downtown Victoria all the way to Sooke. The trails of Goldstream Provincial Park are covered by a lush overhead canopy of old-growth forest, and the spawning salmon in the fall is what memories are made of. For more advanced hikes, the West Coast and Juan de Fuca trails offer multi-day excursions that connect you directly to the heart of nature.

Explore downtown Victoria on foot, wandering through Canada’s oldest Chinatown and the shops along Government Street. Heritage architecture and modern style blend together perfectly, highlighting the best of then and now. Join local historian, John Adams, on a history walk to learn about some of the terrible, tragic and terrific stories of Victoria’s yesteryears. Or hop on the Victoria Harbour Ferry to cruise around the inner harbour, chatting with passengers or listening to the captain describe the city from this unique perspective.

While exploring Victoria’s downtown core, make sure to stop in and experience some of the many fabulous art galleries. With a focus on First Nations and Coast Salish art, most feature works by Canadian artists in varying media from sculpture to paintings, prints, and photographs.

In the historic Rockland neighbourhood near Craigdarroch Castle, you’ll find the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. Located partially in an 1889 heritage mansion, the gallery features a large collection of Asian art works, a selection of work by renowned Canadian painter Emily Carr, and several rotating exhibits. There’s also a lovely gift shop where you can shop locally-made ceramics, jewellery, and art cards.

And more! Explore the creepy wonders at the Bug Zoo, the tiny beauty of Miniature World, the immersive exhibits at the Royal BC Museum, and the stony steps and fascinating history of Craigdarroch Castle.

Whatever adventure you’re looking for, you’ll find something to quicken your pulse and put a smile on your face in Victoria, B.C.
