A short 3-minute ride away the Selkirk Trestle offer an opportunity to pause and soak in sweeping views of the Gorge and city skyline. This historic wooden bridge is a beloved spot for cyclists to snap photos and enjoy the gentle breeze.

Local tip: If the water looks inviting, and you brought your bathing suit, pop over to Banfield Park's swimming dock, located next to the Selkirk Trestle and just a quick 3-minute ride off the Goose.

Has all this pedaling left you thirsty? I guess it's time for a pint at the historic Six Mile Pub & Eatery, the oldest pub in BC, known for its welcoming atmosphere and house-made ingredients. Toast your adventure with a cold drink, just down the hill from the trail. Pop back on the Goose and it's a 24-minute ride from KINU.

Hatley Park National Historic Site

Back on the Goose and it's a 20-minute ride to Hatley Park, home to a castle and magnificent heritage gardens, where we can experience a dose of history and elegance. Wander the trails or tour the grounds to discover a unique blend of nature and old-world charm. Not only is Hatley Park a stunning heritage site, but it's also a filming location of some of Hollywood's biggest hit films including X-Men and Deadpool. The grounds is also home to Royal Roads University, a beautiful post-secondary campus.

Matheson Lake Regional Park

We've taken it pretty easy on your so far, but let's settle in for a bigger ride along the Goose and begin making our way out to Sooke. After an hour or so, let's make a detour to Matheson Lake Regional Park for a tranquil swim surrounded by towering trees. This peaceful lake is an ideal spot to cool off and float awhile mid-ride.

Sooke Potholes Regional Park

This one's for folks truly looking to make a day of it. An hour's ride from Matheson Lake, you'll find Sooke Potholes Regional Park. Marvel at the stunning rock pools and waterfalls carved by the Sooke River at Sooke Potholes Regional Park, a true natural wonder and favourite for summertime swims. Pack a picnic and spend time exploring the scenic trails or just relaxing by the sunlit water.

If you’re bike-packing, Sooke Potholes Spring Salmon Campground is right by the river, offering rustic campsites with easy access to all the natural beauty. It's just another 20-minute ride (you got this!) from the Provincial Park. Drift off to sleep to the sounds of rushing water and wake up ready for the ride back to Victoria.

Local tip: A 25-minute ride from the campground and you'll find yourselves out by old Leechtown, an abandoned mining town, you might still see a few relics from back in the day, but you'll certainly find the end of the Galloping Goose Trail and the bragging rights to say you biked it all!

Choose to start from the trailhead, or ride the Goose from Vic West to the junction of the Galloping Goose and the Lochside Trail to start your journey.

Swan Lake & Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary is just a 6-minute ride from Big Wheel. We recommend leaving enough time to explore the Nature House at 3873 Swan Lake Road.

Pedal to Galey Farms to sample the freshest local produce, pick your own berries, or explore whimsical farm attractions. In summer, the fields are bursting with colour and flavour. Just 7-minutes from The Keg, Galey Farms, situated in the Blenkinsop Valley feels like a world away - an agricultural pocket nestled right within the city.

We're in for our biggest ride of the day so far! A 30-minute pedal to Satinflower Nurseries, where we'll discover a world of native plants and wildflowers ready for your own garden (hope your bike has a basket!). It’s a short detour that inspires with beauty and eco-friendly gardening tips.

Leave the Lochside Trail for a worthwhile detour to the Shaw Centre in downtown Sidney, where you’ll discover hands-on ways to learn about local marine life. From touch tanks to interactive exhibits, it’s a fun and enriching stop for all ages. It's about a 20-minute ride from Sea Cider, so one of our longer rides for the day, but the end is in site - you got this!

Local tip: It's been a long day, don't want to ride back? Many of our regional transit buses are equipped with bike racks.

Thanks to the Trackside Paint Jam in Esquimalt, some of the region's best graffiti artists have brought the buildings which back onto the trail to life with vibrant, eye-catching art work.
