Seasonal Cooking Workshop: Salsa in Season
Join Chef Karina Gomez and learn to prepare fresh salsa made from ingredients grown on the Saanich Peninsula. We'll enjoy some rice and bean tostadas with our salsa and local salad greens while we hear about the farmers that grew the ingredients.More about this program: Kitchen Connect is Victoria's new community food hub. Kitchen Connect has a modern teaching and commercial kitchen. The Seasonal Cooking workshop series will focus on utilizing produce harvested fresh from the field to make healthy seasonal meals. Locally sourced ingredients from nearby farms will be the centerpiece of this hands-on workshop. The South Island Farm Hub currently works with over 30 local farms and we will pick the best and freshest of the season. These workshops will be taught by a local chef who will help you create meals and provide recipes for you to take home that highlight the tastes of the season in Victoria. During the workshop, you will also get to take a tour of the Food Hub to learn about regional food security efforts and how we are supporting a local and sustainable food system.
About the Instructor:
Chef Karina Gomez
Karina is passionate about cooking and loves to share the cuisine of her country of origin, Mexico. She was trained as a chef in Puerto Vallarta and utilizes the recipes handed down from her mother in the family business Food on the Run Mexican Cuisine. Find them at local farmers markets. Karina and family have worked hard to be self-sufficient regarding the main ingredient (organic corn) by milling it themselves to assure its nutritional value and flavours of old Mexico.
