Whistler is a community of 12,000 residents,15,000 employees and welcomes over 3 million visitors annually. As CAO Mike has a leadership role in furthering resort tourism while protecting Whistler's natural environment, promoting a high quality of life for residents and exceptional experiences for visitors.

Mike Furey has worked in federal, provincial and municipal levels of governments. In the 1990's he worked in Vancouver as a Federal Negotiator on First Nation treaties. Mike’s career also took him to Ottawa as a Director with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada. In 2004 Mike joined the Province of British Columbia as an Assistant Deputy Minister in several portfolios including Municipal Affairs. Mike has advised provincial Ministers and worked closely with First Nations, local governments and business leaders. In 2011 he joined the Resort Municipality of Whistler as Chief Administrative Officer. As CAO Mike has a leadership role in sustainable tourism, employee housing, strategic planning and community engagement. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education, and Masters of Public Administration, Queen's University.
